Jeremy A. Christian Yes, Pro-Complex (Also by Optimum Nutrition) has a somewhat lower calorie count per gram of protien (4.5 vs 5 kcal/gram protein). However Pro-Complex has some disadvantages:

    1. It is available in only 8 flavors vs. 18 for Gold 100% Whey.
    2. Pro-Complex includes vitamin suplaments which may be redundant if you already sumplament vitamins or have a sufficiently healthy diet.
    2. It is not available in 10lb bags, the largest size if 4.6 pound tubs.
    3. It is more expensive $0.82 per once for Pro-Complex vs. $0.60 per once for Gold 100% Whey.

Pro-Complex is a great product, but I think it's extra cost is simply not worth it to folks who don't have special needs. Either one would be a great pick; both will get you to where you are going.40 days ago
  • Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard I buy it in the 10lb bags as that is the most cost effective per gram. Basically you cannot beat this stuff for the price. Unless you are strict vegan or lactose intolerant it is definitely what I would suggest. It has the fewest carbs and lowest number of calories per gram of protein of anything out there and still tastes fine with water and great with milk. There are 18 different flavors; I prefer Double-Rich Chocolate, YMMV. 1 scoop = 24g protein, 5g BCAAs, 3g carbohydrates, 1g fat, and 120 calories Since it is whey it will get into your musculature in about 30 minutes which is not really a big deal. Some folks prefer blends with other types of proteins with different release rates but this does not appear to be worth it to me. Macro-nutrient timing only produces statistically significant results in about the top 4% of performers (professional athletes, Olympians and so forth) who are already pushing their above average genetic potential. So if you are like me an you want to lose some weight but don't want that weight to be muscle mass you need to lift as heavy as you can 3+ times a week, consume 1.0g-1.2g of protein per lb of body-weight, and maintain a caloric deficit. This protein is a great tool for implementing such an diet/exercise plan.

  • Lunch came early today: Nudy's Cafe, egg white omelet with spinach, diced tomatoes and side of bacon. No hash browns of toast. I JUST WANT THE PROTEIN!

  • Last night I made a simple but awesome popcorn chicken:
3lbs of pieced chicken breast, trimmed fat
    3 whole eggs,
2 cups fat free Italian bread crumbs
Shaken up in a big bowl
Cooked at 325 for 20 minutes
    BOOM Awesome Popcorn Chicken!
Add hot sauce, BBQ, or low fat dressing.
I prefer Hot Sauce with low sodium. (Red Hot)

  • Turkey Flaxseed Muffins

    1 lb ground turkey breast
    1/2 cup ground flaxseed
    3 tbsp grated Parmesan
    3 springs fresh rosemary, minced
3 cloves garlic, crushed or minced
1 lg sweet potato, quartered and cooked
    1 egg, beaten
    1/4 tsp course sea salt
    Method
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
In a food processor, combine all ingredients and pulse until everything is
well blended. If doing by hand, mash the sweet potatoes with a fork and
combine well with the other ingredients.
Spray a 12-muffin tin with cooking spray. Evenly divide mixture amongst muffin tins. Bake for 30 minutes. Let cool before serving

  • I gave in to temptation this morning. I'm already regretting it. My co-worker brings in soft pretzels every couple of weeks and I grabbed one without thinking twice. Are there any foods that you can't say no to?

Jessica Meck I can do that if you want. I'm going out there tomorrow morning. Redner's just opened up near me and they were $0.78 per pound! They are pretty big in the supermarket and the ones I get from the amish are smaller, but I can eat one and it's my entire meal!198 days ago
  • A few weeks ago, I started adding Wheat Germ to my diet because I remembered my Aunt talking all about it when I was a kid. I did a little research and read good things about it, so I add it to yogurt and cottage cheese. Out of curiosity, I did a search on Twitter and found out that Wheat Germ is becoming the new trendy nutrient. Dr Oz is supposed to have a segment on it this Friday! I guess I should go buy a couple of bottles before the price sky rockets!

Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard I buy it in the 10lb bags as that is the most cost effective per gram. 1 scoop = 24g protein, 5g BCAAs, 3g carbohydrates, 1g fat, and 120 calories ON is owned by a German company and thus complies with German food purity laws. They do systematic batch testing of their products for contaminants like heavy metals, which is a serious health risk. I definitely would not risk consuming protein from a vendor that uses a 3rd party to source their protein; there are too many incidents of Chinese and Indian companies producing contaminated protein due to poor or non-existent quality control. Since it is whey it will get into your musculature in about 30 minutes which is not really a big deal. Some folks prefer blends with other types of proteins with different release rates but this does not appear to be worth it to me.
